In Arizona, one of the most feared pests is the scorpion. Sometimes it seems like they’re lurking around every corner, waiting to strike you, your loved ones, or your pets. Before an infestation grows near, or even in, your home, though, take some time to think- how can you help prevent the threat of the scorpion? And if you have an infestation, what are you going to do about it? (Hint – scorpion pest control )

Spotting A Scorpion

It may help to understand the various types of scorpions. There are several different types of scorpions in Arizona, so not all of them look the same. The most dangerous are the Arizona Bark Scorpion and the Desert Scorpion. The Bark Scorpion is the more deadly of the two, being light brown in color and about 1 to 3 inches long. It happens to be the only scorpion in Arizona with lethal venom. Its less fatal cousin, the Desert Scorpion, can grow up to seven inches long– making it the largest scorpion native to the US.

Scorpion Prevention

Once you know what you’re dealing with, preventing a problem is absolutely key, and if you’re looking to keep scorpions out of your home, there are several easy ways to do it.

  • Try keeping your lawn nice and neat, along with pruning all of your bushes or shrubbery to keep away from buildings.
  • Ensure all the cracks or holes in your walls and foundation are filled and sealed, so that no bugs find their way into your property.
  • Weatherproofing your home can also help prevent pests, as well as refitting your window and door screens.

While your first inclination may be to grab store-bought pesticides or insecticides, that shouldn’t always be your first choice– instead, techniques like these are simpler and safer.
