Ants are one of the biggest species of pests in Arizona. There are over 12 different types of ants in Arizona alone, and all of them can do some serious damage to your home. From Black Ants to Rover Ants to Crazy Ants, they can destroy a lot of what you’ve worked for- and cost you thousands of dollars in ant pest control. One ant species, though, is particularly important to know – the Pharaoh Ant.
Arizona Ants
With 12 different species to choose from, it might be a little difficult to figure out which species is inside your house. One of the biggest nuisances in an Arizona home, though, you might want to take a look at the Pharaoh Ants. They’re named that because they were originally thought to be one of the ten plagues of Egypt- which tells you a lot about what they can do to your home.
Identifying the Pharaoh Ant
Pharaoh Ants are claimed to be one of the hardest types of ants to get rid of . They’re typically less than a 1/16th of an inch long with yellowish-brown bodies and segmented antennae that end in bulky ‘clubs’. You might also notice red and black markings on their abdomens. Don’t mistake them for Thief Ants, though- while Thief Ants are about the same size as Pharaoh Ants, they’re significantly darker in color and just a little bit bigger. Pharaoh ants in the ground tend to live in shaded areas, but they may also be in wall voids in your home close to food and water sources.
Why Don’t You Want Pharaoh Ants In Your Home?
Pharaoh Ants are dangerous for one simple reason- disease. They’ve been known to spread such dangers as dysentery and salmonella, and can also bring almost anything from the outside world into your home. They infect food supplies where they make their home, and in today’s times of global pandemic, Pharaoh Ants’ disease-spreading capabilities are more worrying than ever. If you notice ants on any of the food in your home, don’t just cut them off of it- throw the whole thing away. It’s not worth giving your whole family dysentery .
