Ants have always been a problem, but there is a more recent species of pest throughout Arizona you may want to consider- the Crazy Ant. Named for their erratic, or ‘crazy’ movements, these ants are hard to beat. They can cause thousands of dollars in building and structural damage, and while their bites are minimally dangerous, have been known to kill animals through asphyxiation. But with CAPE Pest Control, eradication is easy.

Identifying A Crazy Ant

There are three species of crazy ant: the Black Crazy Ant, the Caribbean Crazy Ant, and the Rasberry Crazy Ant. The Black Crazy Ant is easy to spot because of its very long antennae and black/blue coloration. This species has been known to ‘clone’ a hive’s queen and her mates for maximum reproduction. If you’re seeing crazy ants in your yard, this is likely the variety you’ve encountered.

The Rasberry Crazy Ant, also known as the Tawny Crazy Ant, can be identified through its very long legs, which give them the erratic ‘crazy’ movements they’re so known for. They’re very good at short-circuiting outlets and are a very small species, only measuring about 1/8th of an inch long.

The Caribbean Crazy Ant is the Crazy Ant that looks the closest to your average ant. Like the Rasberry Crazy Ant , they’re very small, and they’re usually a golden or reddish-brown.

Pest Control Solutions

While it can be hard to track the movements of these ants, you can easily get rid of them. Calling a professional pest service like CAPE Pest Control will always get the job done quick and easy, but there are a few things you can try while you’re waiting.

Location and Destruction

One of the easiest ways to find crazy ants is to set out food for them. You can’t really find any trails they make due to their erratic nature, but you can lead a group of them to food. Then, you can take them out with any household ant repellent.

You should also look out for woodpiles, rock structures, or anything else leaning against your home. This will give the crazy ants shelter and a place to nest, which is the last thing you want in your home! If you fill up any cracks or holes in the siding or foundation of your home as soon as you see them, that will also keep a lot of pests out of your home.
